1.5.4. Safety locks

Exit of any system of electric equipment can be out of operation caused by the fused safety lock.

Safety locks are collected in one block. The block of safety locks / relay is located under a cowl of a motive compartment. Safety locks are closed by a cover.

On the block of safety locks there are four spare safety locks of different power. It is quite good to have a set of spare safety locks in the car. They can be got from the dealer of Audi.

Replacement of a safety lock

Before replacement of a safety lock, switch off all headlights, bulbs and electric equipment of the car, and also get a key from the ignition lock not to damage system of electric equipment.

For removal of a cover of the block of safety locks / relay, disconnect both latches outside of a cover.

Check the list of safety locks to define what safety lock protects the failed chain.

Remove the fused safety lock by means of a plastic clip. This clip is located on a cover of the block of safety locks / relay.

Replace the fused safety lock which can be determined by the fused metal strip, a safety lock of the same power.

Prevention

Do not use a safety lock of bigger power as it can lead to damage of electric equipment, any of elements, and the fire.

If the safety lock constantly fuses, do not replace it continuously. It is necessary to find a source of an overload or short circuit. It is impossible to establish instead of a safety lock at all a piece of a foil or a wire as it can lead to damage of electric equipment, any of elements, and the fire.

After replacement of a safety lock, establish a cover of the block of safety locks / relay into place.

Color designations

Safety locks on 5 A - brown color

Safety locks on 10 A – red color

Safety locks on 15 A – blue color

Safety locks on 20 A – yellow color

Safety locks on 25 A – without coloring (white)

Safety locks on 30 A – green color.

Electric chains of the hatch, window regulators and regulators of provision of sitting of the driver are protected by automatic switches which turn on again automatically after the chain overload cause was removed.
